Welcome to the anesthesiology residency website for Maine Medical Center, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We hope that the content presented here is helpful to you whether you are a medical student, resident, SRNA, CRNA, or anesthesiologist.
We are a department made up of over fifty anesthesiologists (who are employed in private practice by Spectrum Medical Group), 15 dedicated anesthesia residents (CA1 - CA3), and approximately 60 very talented CRNA's. Over the years we have been fortunate to recruit some talented clinical teachers from all regions of the country who provide rich, in-depth training for our residents. As members of the OR team the individuals of our department promote a collegial working environment and have been recognized for providing the highest standard of patient care.
Our didactic program features weekly sessions of dedicated time out of the operating room for lectures conducted primarily by anesthesia staff with additional guest lecturers from surgical specialties. Residents are also given the opportunity to hone their clinical skills further at The Hannaford Simulation Center which was developed and is directed by a member of our department's attending staff.
Started in 1953, our residency program maintains a tradition of excellent clinical training due to the number and variety of cases and the small size of our residency. Because we refrain from running CA-4 fellowships, our residents do not have to compete for experience in interesting subspecialty cases or infrequent medical conditions. Maine Medical Center provides over 36,000 anesthetics a year at its Bramhall Campus and outpatient surgery sites. The majority of the department's faculty is fellowship trained, and more than half of our residents go on to fellowships.
We are very proud of our outstanding program, and again thank you for your interest. We invite you to contact us with questions.
