Maine Medical Center participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). This process selects all PGY-1 residents in the institution. The Internal Medicine-Pediatric residency program has three categorical positions at the PGY-1 level.

Applications will be accepted ONLY through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). No paper applications will be accepted. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Learn more by reviewing the resident contract.

In addition to the completed ERAS application, we require:

  • Dean's letter/MSPE
  • All medical school transcripts
  • Personal statement
  • A USMLE score of at least 200 on Step 1 and 215 on Step 2 examination on first attempt OR a COMLEX score of at least 500 on both the Level 1 and Level 2 examinations on first attempt
  • Three letters of recommendation from physicians with whom you have worked directly

Foreign Medical Graduates
Foreign medical graduates must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Applicant must complete at least two months of clinical training in an ACGME-approved Internal Medicine or Pediatric program. Observerships are not acceptable as clinical training. MMC sponsors J1 visas only.

Interviews
Interviews are by invitation only and are required for consideration for our program. Candidates will be notified by e-mail if invited for an interview. Invitees should then respond via e-mail or contact the program coordinator to arrange the date of interview. We regret that we are unable to provide a status report regarding application or selection for interview.

Interviews are scheduled from November through January. They provide opportunities for you to discuss the program with the Program Director as well as faculty from the departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. There will also be an opportunity to meet with residents and to tour the hospital. The interview day begins at 7:00AM and ends at approximately 2:00PM followed by an optional tour of Portland.
