Maine’s only place for world-class care. On a kid’s level.
Here, children receive care that’s as unique as they are. As Maine’s only full-service children’s hospital, we offer everything from well-child visits to specialized medical and surgical treatment of complex illnesses and injuries.
Children – and families – receive care that’s responsive to their unique needs. Our network of doctors, nurses and other medical professionals are committed to including parents and family members as part of the care team – it’s what we call safe patient and family centered care.
The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center (BBCH) is large enough to provide all the advanced specialty services and state-of-the-art technology your child may need. Yet we remain small enough to deliver intensely personalized care that’s responsive to each child’s – and family’s – unique needs. In fact, we consider parents and family members to be integral members of each child’s care team. Because that’s the way pediatric healthcare should be.
But most importantly, we treat children, like children.
BBCH is a non-profit organization benefitting from generous community support. From routine check-ups and immunizations, to the treatment of life-threatening illnesses and injuries, we provide comprehensive, family-centered healthcare for all of northern New England. With 109 beds, including 31 Level III NICU Beds and 20 Level II Continuing Care Nursery beds, it is Maine's premier referral hospital, offering services not available elsewhere in the state.
We were rated the fourth safest hospital in the U.S. and our nurses were recently rated in the top 3% world-wide for nursing excellence. U.S. News & World Report ranked us among the top Children's hospitals in the country for Pediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology care (2013-14 and 2014-15).
Barbara Bush: A Special Tribute
The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center was named in honor of First Lady Barbara Bush for her long-standing commitment to children's issues in the state of Maine. At the public naming in 1995, Mrs. Bush graciously accepted the honor, and reminded those in attendance that "children are our future" and providing "a great start to life for all children" is the most basic of needs and priorities. Mrs. Bush’s annual Spring visits are enjoyed by patients and staff alike, and the medical center is grateful for her support and dedication.
