We are celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital all year long. In September of 1995, Maine Medical Center announced a new facility would be built as the home for the only children’s hospital for the kids of Maine. The facility was named after the former president’s wife for her long-standing commitment to children's issues in the state of Maine. At the public naming in 1995, Mrs. Bush graciously accepted the honor, and reminded those in attendance that "children are our future" and providing "a great start to life for all children" is the most basic of needs and priorities. The medical center is grateful for her support and dedication over the years.
We've seen a lot of changes in 20 years but one thing hasn't — our employees' dedication to caring for our patients and their families.

Here is what some people have to say about BBCH:
"We would be remiss not to recognize the exceptional caregivers at Barbara Bush Children's Hospital. We have spent more than our fair share of time at children's hospitals, and can say with confidence that the quality of care and the treatment we received as people were second to none." – Anonymous
