When the first phase
of the project is complete in late 2008, Maine Medical
Center’s Emergency Department will
have a six bed Trauma/Critical
Care Suite, a six bed Acute Psychiatry Unit,
and a new 23 bed Acute Care Unit
with all private rooms. Also included in phase
one is a completely renovated acute Radiology Department. This
area will house a CT, two digital radiology rooms,
an ultrasound room, reading room areas and the
space for a second CT that will be
added in the future.
The second phase will house our new 10-bed
Pediatric Emergency Department – the only one
of its kind in the state – and
the Ambulatory Care Program, which has an urgent care
focus. Each of these treatment areas has been
designed, equipped and staffed to address the special
needs of these populations.
Phase three will provide new public spaces and
an eight bed Clinical Decision Unit that will
focus on observation medicine.
The new public space
will be a warm and welcoming area and take into account
family needs when an emergency strikes. There are
multiple waiting areas including one specifically for pediatric
patients and families. There are four Family Rooms
available for times when more privacy is needed. There
is a café area with Internet access
so family members may connect with other family
members, friends, employers, associates, etc. Entire meals will be
available in the café area for those experiencing
long stays. Customer Service Representatives are available to assist
families with other needs.
These renovations are scheduled for completion in
the spring of 2009.
