Fundraising & Donations
At The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, we are continually touched by the unmatched generosity of our community and its passion for quality health care for the children of Maine and northern New England.
Below are examples of the hospital programs, services and equipment that have recently been made possible thanks to funds donated to The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and its Children's Miracle Network by individuals, businesses and organizations as well as community events.
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit will be relocating to the inpatient unit on the 6th floor of Bean building at Maine Medical Center. The proximity to the inpatient unit at BBCH will provide a continuity of care for both patients and their families when making the transition there. The PICU cares for more than 450 critically ill children from birth to age 21 each year. The PICU construction has been made possible by the generous support of our corporate and community supporters.
The Safe Sleep Program has a focus on helping parents develop safe sleep practices for their children. The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital provides a fleece swaddle embroidered with “Back is Best” messaging to all babies born at the Family Birth Center. These swaddles provide great comfort to infants and are a constant reminder to have babies sleep on their back.
Child Life Specialists work to provide a fun distraction for young patients while they wait to see a doctor, education for patients and family around what to expect before, during and after a medical procedure and self-expression activities to help young patients cope with a health challenge.
Let’s Go! is a nationally recognized childhood obesity prevention program of The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital and implemented in partnership with MaineHealth. Our goal is to increase physical activity and healthy eating for children from birth to 18 through policy and environmental change. Let’s Go! works in six settings to reach families where they live, learn, work and play to reinforce the importance of healthy eating and physical activity.
