The MaineHealth Physician Leadership Development Fellowship seeks to provide opportunities for applied learning of leadership concepts and skills. To that end, each PLDF participant is expected to identify and conduct a longitudinal leadership project over the course of the program. Projects are designed to address the interests and needs of each participant in a way that enhances their leadership growth.
- Develop each participant's leadership knowledge and skills.
- Offer an opportunity for practical application of the concepts and skills advanced through the PLDF program.
- Focus on an area of personal and/or professional interest to the participant.
- Lead to exploration of an issue that is important to the participant's sponsoring organization, MaineHealth, and/or has implications for advancing other state or national initiatives.
- Are completed within an 11-to-12-month period.
PLDF participants identify a topic for their leadership project during the first learning session. They finalize their topic selection by the second learning session and begin to develop a project plan that will allow them to complete the project by or before the final session. They may select projects that can be undertaken individually or use a team approach with other PLDF participants. Participants review their proposed project topic with the appropriate physician or administrative leader from their sponsoring organization to ensure that the project is relevant to the participant and the organization.
At the first learning session, participants are asked to join a learning group of five to six participants that serves as a peer group and support mechanism for their project. There is time dedicated at each learning session for the learning groups to meet and for participants to discuss their progress on their projects.
PLDF faculty and staff are available to assist participants with planning and conducting their projects. Participants complete their project by providing a poster presentation of the project including lessons learned, outcomes and experience.
