Please listen to this statement from Dr. Joseph Wight, Cardiologist with MaineHealth Cardiology and Chair of the MaineHealth Heart Failure Workgroup (.mp3)
The purpose of the MaineHealth home diuretic protocol is to improve patients’ health outcomes and reduce avoidable hospitalizations. The protocol allows nurses to respond without delay to early signs of fluid overload by managing diuretics, monitoring symptoms and lab values, and communicating patients’ status to the responsible physician.
Where is the MaineHealth Diuretic Protocol available?
- Greater Portland and Biddeford areas – all areas served by Home Health Visiting Nurses service.
- Penobscot Bay Medical Center area – beginning early July 2013
