Family Medicine Residency

Debra Rothenberg, M.D., PhD.

Faculty Physician

Dr. Rothenberg graduated from Cornell University with an interdisciplinary social sciences degree. After two years as a Peace Corps volunteer at a maternal-child health center in Niger, West Africa, she entered both graduate and medical school at Michigan State University. She received her M.D. degree in 1990, completed her residency training at the University of Rochester/Highland Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in 1994, and received her PhD in anthropology in 2001.

From 1994 through 1999, Dr. Rothenberg was an academic fellow and then a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before joining Maine Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency Program in the fall of 2002, she taught at the Ohio State University's rural family practice residency track and worked in a pediatric center for the underserved of Springfield, Ohio.

Her areas of interest in family medicine include maternal-child health, community-oriented primary care, cross-cultural medicine, and the doctor-patient relationship. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time in Maine's beautiful outdoors with her family, listening to live music, and traveling.
