The MMCFC actively participates in the Northern New England CF Consortium (NNECFC).The NNECFC is a regional, voluntary consortium of more than 70 clinicians and researchers from the CF care centers in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The mission of the group is to improve CF care and patient outcomes throughout the region through clinical research. The Maine Medical Center is currently developing an electronic system for tracking and improving patient care across the participating centers. This cooperative network of CF Centers is serving as a national model for bringing state-of-the-art CF therapy to clinical use.
As a result of this initiative, the NNECFC has recently been charged with the responsibility of compiling and analyzing demographic and clinical information on all patients being followed at accredited CF centers throughout the country. This group has also developed standards for microbiology labs for the handling of CF sputum samples, which is now used throughout our region.
We are notified directly of all CF research trials seeking subjects through the therapeutic development network organized by the CF Foundation and can refer patients to these clinical trials. Other MMC Research Links The Maine Medical Center Research Institute
