Helipad

In 1998, LifeFlight of Maine began the first professional medical helicopter program in Maine.  Since then, Maine Medical Center has accepted patients transported by LifeFlight to the new helipad situated on top of the hospital's existing garage.  A connector bridge, from the garage to the Emergency Department provides trauma patients direct access to the ED.

With a helipad onsite, we will ensure that patients with acute trauma and medical conditions receive care as soon as possible.  The selected site for the helipad was evaluated in detail, with comprehensive assessment of approach and departure flight paths, internal traffic routes, and sound studies gauging the effect of helicopter noise on both nearby residential areas and hospital patient care areas.
