Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute is nationally recognized for outstanding cancer care. Our patients have access to leading-edge treatment options, including clinical trials. Our clinical team, comprised of Maine Medical Center and community-based physicians specializing in cancer care, includes Board certified and fellowship-trained medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and surgeons, as well as oncology-certified nurses and clinical patient navigators.
We have a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care. Specialists work as a team to plan and coordinate the patient’s treatment, to involve the patient and family in the treatment planning and care, and to improve the patient’s quality of life. Clinical patient navigators work to ensure patients and their loved ones have access to all the information they need to make the most informed and timely decisions about their treatment. They partner with patients to help coordinate care and access support resources such as nutritional counseling, support groups, home health and palliative care.
We care for more people diagnosed with cancer than any other hospital in Maine. Our patient outcomes, the ultimate measure of a hospital’s quality of cancer care, are superior when compared with national benchmarks, particularly for lung, prostate and genitourinary, colorectal and breast cancers.
The Cancer Institute is fully accredited by three of the most respected national organizations established to ensure quality cancer care: the American College of Surgeons’ (ACS) Commission on Cancer, the ACS National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and the American College of Radiology. Also, Maine Medical Center is ranked the top hospital in Maine by U.S. News & World Report. Read about our Quality & Outcomes.
