My name is Laura Marles and I would like to welcome you to Maine’s premiere medical teaching facility, Maine Medical Center. It is here that thousands of college students are educated in the many fields of medicine.
In 2004 we decided to take Student Education to the next level: You, the High School Student. We are doing this through a branch of Exploring called Medical Explorers. Medical Explorers is a Nationwide program that started over 30 years ago.
Like most branches of Exploring it is a career-oriented program designed to teach young men and women the process in attaining a career in medicine. It is for boys and girls grades 9 through 12. We meet most Wednesday's during the school year at Maine Medical Center's Dana Center. The exact dates and times will be provided on this website in the Meeting Schedule link.
The meetings will be approximately one hour in length unless otherwise specified. Officers may be required to stay fifteen to thirty minutes after the meeting has adjourned. Each meeting will be a presentation by different members of the medical community, depending on the needs and requests of the students. Most of our meetings are in Lecture Format, with a question and answer period. We occasionally have Hands on lecture in which the Students are encouraged to participate. We are also looking to add field trips to our program in the near future. We have had many diferent types of Careers represented here at Maine Medicl Explorers. to date we have had 20+ speakers from different fields. at the end of this year we expect that nuber to be over 30.
It is all up to you! This is the first Medical Explorer Post Southern Maine. The quality and growth of this program depends on you! Please spread the word to friends and family. I hope you will love Medical Explorers as much as I do.
