Maine Medical Center Earns Top Score From Watchdog Group
Maine Medical Center earned an “A” score for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national organization that advocates for the safety, quality, and affordability of health care.
The independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits looked at 2,652 general hospitals across the nation and issued just 729 “A” scores, including one to MMC. The group uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.
The Leapfrog Group’s nine-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel includes experts from Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and Stanford.
“It’s The Leapfrog Group’s goal to give patients the information they need and deserve before even entering a hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We look forward to the day when all hospitals in the U.S. will earn the highest scores for putting patient safety first.”
“This validates that Maine Medical Center is among the safest hospitals in the nation,” says Doug Salvador, Vice President of Quality & Patient Safety, and Associate Chief Medical Officer at Maine Medical Center. “Patients can rest assured that we’ll keep them safe and well cared for.”
