MMC Inpatient Admission Process
The admitting process at Maine Medial Center is designed to get you into your room and started on your treatment as soon as possible. You should bring your insurance information and any forms not already taken care of in the pre-admission process. The Admitting Representative may ask you some questions you feel you've already answered. Only essential questions are asked and your answers and the rest of your records at MMC are confidential.
At admission and throughout your hospitalization, you may be asked to sign additional forms consenting for treatment. We cannot treat you without your permission. It is important that you read the forms carefully and ask any questions you may have, so you may understand as much as possible about your treatment.
If at all possible, you will be assigned to a private or semi-private room, however room preferences cannot be guaranteed.
Patients are asked to arrive at the hospital between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. After you are admitted, a member of the admitting staff or a volunteer will take you to your nursing unit. There, one of the nursing staff will take you to your room.
What do I bring with me?
Generally speaking, all you will need to bring with you are a few items for personal comfort. Books, magazines, your own nightclothes and slippers if you desire or a few cosmetics may make your stay more pleasant. You may want to bring a small amount of cash for incidentals such as newspapers. We urge you to leave all valuables at home. If this is not possible, please ask the Admitting Representative to make arrangements for Security to meet with you to store your valuables for safekeeping. For safety reasons, please leave all electrical appliances at home with the exception of a hair dryer and a battery-operated radio or clock.
Do I bring medications that I am taking?
Yes, please bring all prescription and non-prescription medications that you are taking on a regular basis. The will be held for you until discharge, unless your physician directs you to take them while you are at MMC.
Can I have visitors?
Visits from friends and relatives can contribute to your recovery, and we encourage them. We ask especially that your friends and relatives plan their visits so that there are no more than two in your room at any time. Children 12 and over are welcome to visit, but must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 12 may visit in special circumstances, with permission of the head nurse on the unit. (Visitors should note that there is no smoking in the hospital.)
