Breast Cancer Clinical Navigator Program
A Clinical Patient Navigator guides patients and families through the diagnostic and treatment process. This specially trained nurse helps patients and families fully understand their breast cancer diagnosis and treatment options so they can make the most informed decision about which treatment to undergo. Whenever possible, care is coordinated to provide consultations at the Breast Care Center at one time. This is particularly convenient for patients from outside the Portland area.
Clinical Patient Navigators are highly skilled oncology nurses who are certified as an oncology certified nurse (OCN), Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN) or advanced oncology certified nurse (AOCN) through a national organization of the Oncology Nursing Society, the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. As cancer treatments become more complex, patients will require increasingly specialized care. Oncology certified nurses have both the knowledge and experience to deliver that care effectively. Additional certifications such as Certified Breast Care Nurse only add to the skill level patients can expect. Patients and families are always at the center of our model for care at the Breast Care Center, and can expect a knowledgeable and accessible nurse dedicated to supporting and helping them navigate each step through the healthcare system from diagnosis through survivorship.
