OB/GYN Residency

Didactics

Didactics are extremely important to the measured learning in a residency program and we are committed to providing exceptional didactics in a protected environment.  Protected didactics occur every Wednesday morning and cover a two year rotating curriculum.  We have initiated a resident-suggested format such that once a month one broad topic is presented in a 3 hour format:  the first hour is a traditional didactic, the second hour is devoted to cases that allow residents to use knowledge reviewed in the first hour to solve real cases, and the third hour is spent reviewing 2 high-quality articles relevant to the topic chosen.  The last Wednesday of each month is a practical didactic that takes place off-site at the MMC-Hanaford Simulation Center, where simulation models are utilized to review surgical procedures and anatomy (check out the sim center below!)

On Friday mornings there are department educational activities, with residents attending Gyn and Ob-specific didactics and Grand Rounds.  High quality Morbidity and Mortality Rounds are presented monthly as is our very highly rated "Evidence Based Medicine" conference.  This well-attended conference presents 2 articles to the entire department that are critiqued with the help of an epidemiologist and are relevant to our clinical practice.

All didactic presentations are evaluated by the residents and feedback is provided to lecturers in a continuous quality-improvement cycle.
