Maine Medical Center’s Neuroscience Institute is equipped with both adult and pediatric epilepsy monitoring units. This type of monitoring records brain activity and behavior over a period of time and helps physicians understand seizures and other events, to better direct appropriate treatment.
Through the Neuroscience Institute, Maine Medical Center offers an integrated and comprehensive team of caregivers in the management of intensively neurologically injured patients.
Neurosurgery and Spine
Neurosurgery and spine services at Maine Medical Center are provided by several major physician groups in the community, including neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons and physiatrists. Our practitioners stay abreast of the latest clinical techniques in this constantly evolving field.
The Neuroscience Institute, in collaboration with the Maine Medical Center Research Institute, participates in research and clinical trials for a range of neurological conditions. As a result, our patients have access to new treatments that may not be available at other hospitals.
Maine Medical Center’s Stroke Program provides multidisciplinary, subspeciality expert care in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke. Our program was the first in Maine to receive distinction as the Primary Stroke Center from the Joint Commission and has earned the Gold Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
