MMC is proud to be an ANCC MAGNET Recognized hospital and is in the process of submitting materials for a third re-designation. MMC offers opportunities for nurses to thrive and excel in today’s complex health care environment. Structures and process at eh medical center support a professional practice environment that supports individuals professional development. A state of the art simulation laboratory, professional educational opportunities within the medical center and nationality and strong academic partnerships offer nurses multiple opportunities to learn and develop. Inter-professional collaboration and partnerships including patients and families leads to a culture of state of the art evidenced based practice. The robust research program allows nurses to challenge practice and develop state of the art standards of care. By supporting nurses with tools to provide excellent care, extraordinary outcomes are achieved. The Biannual Report for Nursing highlights these exceptional outcomes.
Professional Practice Model
Maine Medical Center nurses are committed to professional practice and living our practice model every day. Partnership with patients, families, the interdisciplinary care team and our communities are at the center of the model. The model is a framework for nursing at the center and the structure of our care delivery system. The model exemplifies professionalism in nursing where evidence-based practice, ethical care, self-regulation/governance, accountability and service come alive.
The foundation of the model is the Mission, Vision, and Values of the nurses, which align with those of the organization. In 2014, our nursing staff contemporized the model. Keeping true to the philosophical and conceptual components of the model, an updated model was developed.
Nursing Strategic Plan
The 2012-2014 Nursing Strategic Plan highlighted care in Transformational Leadership, Structural Empowerment, Exemplary Professional Practice and New Knowledge, Innovations and Improvements leading to exceptional empirical outcomes. Evaluation of the plan and the development of the Nursing Strategic Plan for 2015-2017 occurred using the strong-shared governance model. Input into the plan was from across all disciplines and levels of nursing within the organization and continues to align with MMC’s and the system’s strategic goals. Areas of focus are on patient satisfaction, staff satisfaction, professional development, value-based care and reduction of hospital acquired infections.
MMC Professional Practice Offices monitor quality process that are that are emphasized as priorities according to Regulatory Standards of Practice, National Patient Safety Goals, and MMC’s and Nursing Strategic Plan. Data is submitted to national data banks for Nurse Satisfaction, Nursing Sensitive Indicators and Patient Experience and HCAHPS reporting and benchmarked with other like institutions.
