Professional Practice Model
Maine Medical Center nurses are committed to professional practice and living our practice model every day. Partnership with patients, families, the interdisciplinary care team and our communities are at the center of the model. The model is a framework for nursing at the center and the structure of our care delivery system. The model exemplifies professionalism in nursing where evidence-based practice, ethical care, self-regulation/governance, accountability and service come alive.
The foundation of the model is the Mission, Vision, and Values of the nurses, which align with those of the organization. In 2014, our nursing staff contemporized the model. Keeping true to the philosophical and conceptual components of the model, an updated model was developed. Staff had an opportunity to provide input into the model via shared governance.
The 2012-2014 Nursing Strategic Plan highlighted care in Transformational Leadership, Structural Empowerment, Exemplary Professional Practice and New Knowledge, Innovations and Improvements leading to exceptional empirical outcomes. Evaluation of the plan and the development of the Nursing Strategic Plan for 2015-2017 occurred using the strong-shared governance model. Input into the plan was from across all disciplines and levels of nursing within the organization and continues to align with MMC’s and the system’s strategic goals. Areas of focus are on patient satisfaction, staff satisfaction, professional development, value-based care and reduction of hospital acquired infections.
