Didactics

Didactics are extremely important to the measured learning in a residency program and we are committed to providing exceptional didactics in a protected environment. Protected didactics occur every Friday morning from 9 – 11:50 and are on a two year rotating curriculum.  A chief resident is appointed “Didactics Chief” to allow for significant resident input into the two year curriculum, based on the CREOG Educational Objectives.  The last Friday of each month is a practical didactic that takes place off-site at the Hannaford Center for Safety, Innovation and Simulation, where simulation models are utilized to review surgical procedures and anatomy.  All didactics are videotaped to allow for asynchronous learning.

On Friday mornings prior to didactics, there are department educational activities, with residents attending Gyn and Ob-specific didactics and Grand Rounds, including Tumor Board and MFM teaching rounds.  Morbidity and Mortality Rounds are presented monthly as is our highly rated "Evidence Based Medicine" conference. This well-attended conference presents 2 clinically relevant articles to the entire department that are evaluated with the help of an epidemiologist.

Morning sign out on Labor and Delivery is attended by one of the MFM physicians and affords multi-disciplinary education, in addition to transition of care.   Benign GYN rounds are conducted twice a week, sponsored by a team of committed attendings.

All didactic presentations are evaluated by the residents and feedback is provided to lecturers in a continuous quality-improvement cycle.
