Research

The quality of resident research done in our residency program is outstanding, winning both national and district awards. We expect each resident to complete an academic project prior to completion of residency. We provide residents with a well-structured research curriculum that starts in the PGY1 year. We schedule a full month in the second year to allow residents a dedicated rotation to thoughtfully invest time in a well-structured research project, with the help of a faculty mentor. It is our expectation that research projects will be publication-caliber, and we provide many resources to help residents achieve this goal, including access to an epidemiologist as well as to the Maine Medical Center Research Institute's committee to support resident projects.  Many of our residents have received intramural funding for research projects, up to $10,000.
