Surgery

Our program is made up of Maine’s only pediatric surgery program with board-certified, fellowship-trained subspecialists. We perform procedures ranging from routine to the most cutting edge, including minimally invasive surgery of the chest and abdomen, neonatal (newborn) surgery, and gastric and intestinal surgery and, offer expert capabilities in vascular access surgery.

Conditions Treated

As pediatric surgeons, we provide surgical intervention for a range of conditions affecting newborns, children, adolescents and teenagers, including:

  • Abnormalities of the chest wall and lungs
  • Abnormalities of the liver, spleen, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas and intestines
  • Acute appendicitis
  • Congenital malformations
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Head and neck cysts and masses
  • Hernias
  • Hydrocele (a fluid-filled sac surrounding a testicle)
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis)
  • Pediatric cancers and benign tumors
  • Skin lesions
  • Trauma
  • Undescended testes
