Healthcare Foundation Awards First
ME – The Board of the Stephens Community Healthcare Foundation recently announced the award of two significant gifts in the Oxford Hills region. These gifts, the first ever by the Foundation, will support the community in attaining more healthy lifestyles for the population and also as part of Western Maine Health’s community outreach in addressing obesity initiatives.
The Stephens Community Healthcare Foundation awarded $6,000 to the Guy E. Rowe School in Norway for the purpose of acquiring skis, bindings, poles, and boots to expand its cross country ski program to include grades K through 3.
The second grant was awarded to the Western Foothills Land Trust in the amount of $10,000 for the purpose of trail design and initial implementation.
'Awarding these two initial grants to the Western Foothills Land Trust and Guy E. Rowe School is related and deliberate. We consider both grants to be a strategic investment in our community’s health and they closely align with the mission and vision of Western Maine Health,' Rev. Donald Mayberry, Board Chair of the Stephens Community Healthcare Foundation, said.
'The intention of these grants is that they will contribute to the future success of each program. Our hope is that the expanded ski program at the School will benefit from having another venue for trails. And conversely, the use of the trails will increase awareness in the community for outdoor activity and access to it for people of all ages,' noted Barbara Allen, Director of Development and Community Relations.
The vision of Western Maine Health is that the people of the communities it serves will be the healthiest in Western Maine.
"One of the fundamental goals I consider in achieving this vision is to collaborate and partner with like-minded organizations committed to the same outcome. One of the ways we’ll execute this is transitioning our Foundation to act as a catalyst for health and lifestyle reform in our community,'" Timothy Churchill, President and CEO of Western MaineHealth, stated.
The Stephens Community Healthcare Foundation is a non-profit organization that was created in 1999. The foundation’s primary purpose is to provide philanthropic support for the capital needs of Western Maine Health and Stephens Memorial Hospital.
Eligibility requirements for grants from the Stephens Community Health Care Foundation are tied to sustainable healthcare initiatives. Applications will be considered again in July.
