Surgical Services RNs Attend Conference

Four Registered Nurses from Stephens Memorial Hospital's Surgical Services Department recently attended a two day conference in Portland presented by the Maine Society of Peri-Anesthesia Care Nurses (MESPAN).

Kathy Sutton, RN, Diane Morrison, RN, BSN, Kathy Fitts, RN, BSN, and Ann Litchfield, RN attended the conference at the beginning of November which targeted registered nurses in all phases of peri-operative patient care.  They were pleased to be able to share their knowledge with their fellow workers upon their return; and indicated that the networking opportunities available at the conference allowed them to share ideas with their peers in other hospitals and bring that valuable information back.

The group participated in lectures on everything from the changes in transfusion practice and pain management to the pre-admission screening process.  Ann Litchfield, RN, shared that the conference, "Was directly related to the care we give every day.  In addition, the conference introduced new trends and expectations of future changes."

Beverly Snow, RN-BC, Nurse Director of Surgical Services at SMH remarks that, "Education and staying up to date is very important to the Surgical Services Staff.  Ann, Diane, Kathy, and Kathy returned from this conference excited to share this new information with the other members of our staff."
